Paris-Roubaix in mourning
April 9 th 2018 - 14:14
Yesterday evening, with great sadness the organisers of Paris-Roubaix learned of the death of the Véranda’s Willems Crelan team rider Michael Goolaerts. The life of the young Belgian, who suffered a heart failure after approximately one hundred kilometres of the race, could not be saved following his transfer to hospital in the city of Lille. At the age of 23 years, Goolaerts was taking part in his first Paris-Roubaix, after a beginning to the season in which he displayed genuine progress for his second consecutive year of racing full-time in the professional ranks.
The organisational teams of Paris-Roubaix and the Tour de France share the pain experienced by all cycling enthusiasts and would like to express its support for all his entourage, with special thoughts for his family, team-mates and the staff of the Véranda’s Willems Crelan team.
